Currently have the US Spec A3 2. Every place that sells it says its just a full bolt-on upgrade. However then I see people with stage 2 tunes which makes sense to get the most out of the bigger turbo. Currently I'm at about Stage 1. The biggest issues, I dnd 5e stealthy feat in California with strong Emissions restrictions. After 6 years of new ownershipthen I will need to smog the car - Do most companies try and become CARB certified?
I'm not sure if I'll have the car by then, but just in case. I do understand that tunes will get the most power but just wondering if the IS38 is really, actually, a bolt-on situation. Hello mate, as far as I'm aware and happy to be wrong that most turbo upgrades to stage 3 are indeed bolt on BUT once you're already at stage 2 that is with downpipe and intercooler upgrades already installed.

On CV Performance rolling road dyno it managed a maximum of kw at the wheels, with the stock mapping. With a custom Stage1 tune power rose to kw.

But that was with the stock IS12 turbo. Power was not enough for this owner. You get to keep your downpipe, your intake kit, your oil and water lines, your electric wastegate and blowoff valve exactly as was before. This recipe was tested extensively on the Seat Leon 5F 1. The intercooler was also upgraded with a larger unit, which was absolutely necessary because the stock one is small and heat soaks very easily even with a Stage1 ECU remap.

Not that they couldn't just up the boost tho. But I think they'll put an IS38 in it and keep the boost lower.

We replace the original IS38 turbine and CNC mill the turbine housing to install a larger lightweight 9 blade turbine for greater gas flow. We also replace the original thrust bearing for TTE upgrade deg that is made in-house.
Modifying the turbo discharge silencer, removing the original baffle internals and fitting a new straight through section, removing any restriction and its function as a noise canceling device, and so improving the flow and enhancing the sound. Advantages are greater gas flow, reducing back pressure and lowering exhaust gas temperatures, allowing safer higher boost levels.
This turbine is extremely light in mass so giving a reduced moment of inertia, meaning fast spool up for the size. Equilibrium Precisely balancing our turbochargers is a key critical factor to become a TTE upgrade unit as longevity and performance are paramount.
